Maho Beach

Maho Beach is a beach on the Dutch part of the island of Sint Maarten in the Caribbean. He is known primarily for its location right on the Princess Juliana International Airport and there available opportunity to observe aircraft in the deep final approach directly, worldwide "Plane spotters ".

The landing threshold of runway 10 is only a few meters from the beach. Landing aircraft cross the beach in about 10 to 20 meters in height. Before the start of motion at the start of the aircraft by the thrust of the jet engines small stones accelerated and swirled sand on the beach. Because the aircraft usually start heading east and you need to quickly gain altitude because of the hills, the thrust is often completely built already in the state before the brakes are released. The stay at the beach right behind the runway is for viewers therefore dangerous.

Once in April 2012, two French tourists were swept away by a thrust jet engine taking off from the fence and injured, some seriously, it was discussed to explain this part of the beach to the safety zone.

For the information of onlookers at Maho Beach daily flight movements (airlines, arrival times and departure locations) are updated on the beach next to the runway of a restaurant operator manually on a surfboard.
