Mai Kuraki

Mai Kuraki (仓 木 麻衣jap Kuraki of May; actually Aono Soon (青 野 真 衣Aono May); born October 28, 1982 in Tokyo, Japan ) is a JPop singer. Her style was influenced early by singing Whitney Houston and choreographed by Michael Jackson.

Career

While still a student in the second year at the middle school Kuraki sent a demo tape to the record company GIZA. The recordings convinced the record bosses and she received a contract. Published in 1999 in the U.S. under the pseudonym K May their debut single, Baby I Like. Their first single in Japan, Love, Day After Tomorrow, still followed in the same year.

Despite commercial success Kurakis career was always in the shadow of Utada Hikaru. Although critics often see in Kuraki the better dance talent, she has the image of a copy of Utada with the fans. Nevertheless, her debut album, Delicious Way sold (in 2000) more than 4 million copies and was the best-selling album of the year 2000.

In 2000, she also got her own TV show called "Mai -K TV". In this show, Mai shows a personal side and reveals a lot about their musical roots.

Their second album Perfect Crime (2001) has sold more than two million copies. In the summer it went on the first tour of six major cities.

In January 2002, she released her first English album Secret of my heart in America. Then it went to Japan on tour again, this time in a slightly greater extent: 10 cities, 14 shows, on average 50,000 visitors per concert. In October appears their second album in 2002, Fairy Tale. This time there was only a medium-sized tour to promote the album, but it lasted for eight whole months.

The now fourth album If i believe followed and made the first of her albums easy to get started at # 1 on the charts in May and secured as a permanent place at the top of the Japanese idol. On January 1, 2004 saw the best of album Wish You The Best

2005 joined the singer her studies at Ritsumeikan University and successfully published the now fifth album Fuse of Love.
