Maija Isola

Maija Isola ( born March 15, 1927 in Riihimäki; † 3 March 2001) was a Finnish designer and artist.

Life

She studied from 1946 to 1949 painting at the Academy of Art and Design in Helsinki. 1949 Isola has designed first fabric designs for the company Printex Oy, which passed in the 1950s in the company Marimekko. Maija Isola worked until 1997 as chief designer at Marimekko.

In addition to her position with Marimekko she worked as a freelance artist. For Marimekko has designed 500 fabric prints. Between 1978 and 1987 she worked together with her daughter Kristina Isola. The most popular fabric patterns by Maija Isola Unikko is from 1964.
