Maillon

The Maillons Rapide (French: Quick chain link ) is a connector for chains, which also applies in the climbing. It is also called Mayo. This comes from the English pronunciation of the French word Maillons. In German-speaking Maillons the Rapide is often referred to as a screw cap or quick link.

Other common names are chain link, chain link or Kettenschraubverschluss. Chain links are also available in the form of a bent chain link. Carbines are firefighters carabiner with screw cap, which are very similar to a Kettenschraubverschluss.

Applications

Rock climbing

If you vorsteigt while climbing and then ( eg due to accidents, excessive difficulty of the route, unexpected weather changes, etc.) has no other option than abseiling, must from you and use on a carbine or a cheaper alternative a Maillons Rapide and leave. The Maillons is then used when only hook with ear plate (usually T- bolts ) and no stalls or pitons with ring are present. The adhesive hook and cantons can thread the rope through the rings without damaging it while rappelling or after the same when pulling. With hooks that have a ear plate, the cable can be damaged by the edge of the ear plate. Here therefore a Maillons Rapide is used and left behind.

Paragliding

For paragliders Maillons Rapides be used at the transition between the risers and the lines to the screen- cap. Normally Maillons are used here in a delta form and saved the cloth with a rubber from slipping. In addition, they are used to establish a connection between the harness and Rettungsnotschirm. Due to a possible development of this joint, a comparatively high breaking load resistance is required.

Event Technology

Quick links used to connect chains or steel cables. In the event equipment they are used as connecting means of securing ropes (safety ropes, Eng. Safetys ) used. There they are subject to special regulations ( BGV -C1 § 9, BGI 810-3 ). The manufacturer's load limit is valid only in the closed state and in the longitudinal direction. Bending strains on the connection means are to be avoided.
