Main Line Through Upper Norrland

As Stambanan genome övre Norrland is referred to the railway line ( Ånge ) Bracke - Långsele - Vännäs ground in Sweden. It is often seen as part of Norra stambanan. It was built in 1883-1894 and 1939-1942 electrified.

History

The 629 km long railway line is mainly single track. Only on the short stretch of about five kilometers between Hörnsjö and Högbränna - through two tunnels and a bridge over the river Öreälven - the range is expanded to double track. According to the Swedish network authority Trafikverket the track for a top speed of 160 km / h is allowed. In addition to the north -developed and quite simple summer only served to travelers Inland Railway, the railway line is the most important and sometimes the only link between central and southern Sweden with northern Sweden and Narvik in the north- eastern part of Norway.

Zweigstrecken

From the Stambanan genome övre Norrland branch different tracks from: The railways Forsmo - hoting, Hällnäs - Storuman and Jörn- Arvidsjaur form the connection with the Inland Railway and are called cross paths. While the first two sections are used primarily for freight - there is only one person train service between Umeå and Lycksele - the traffic on the third line is all set. Here the private Inlandsbanan AB endeavored to resume the service.

The other routes Mellansel - Örnsköldsvik, Vännäs - Holmsund, Bastuträsk - Skelleftehamn and Nyfors - Piteå are random routes to cities on the Swedish Baltic coast. Only since 2010 exists with the Botniabanan an alternative rail route to Stambanan genome övre between Norrland ( Gävle ) Sundsvall and Umeå.
