Template: Infobox River / Obsolete
The Maine is a river in western France, which runs in the Pays de la Loire in the department of Maine -et -Loire. It originates in the city of Angers from the two rivers Sarthe and Mayenne at the southern tip of the island of Saint- Aubin, runs in a southwesterly direction and opens after 12 km at Bouchemaine as a right tributary of the Loire.
Maine is a derived form of Maienne means river and the center. Today's two rivers were formerly a single Latin name: Mediuna. In colloquial usage, however, has its own name for the common mouth piece of the Sarthe and Mayenne developed.
The name of the department of Maine -et -Loire points to the river.
