Majdal Anjar

Majdal Anjar (Arabic مجدل عنجر, also Majdel Anjar transcribed ) is a town in the district of Zahle Bekaa governorats in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon with 23,000 inhabitants (2006).

The city is situated with an area of ​​25.64 km ² on the road connecting Beirut - Damascus about 5 km from the Syrian border - the border station Masnaa lies immediately behind the town - at an altitude of 970 m. Beirut is 55 km from Damascus and 57 km away. The predominantly inhabited by Armenians, place small Anjar with the remains of its ancient settlement and relics of the Umayyad located a few kilometers north.

On a hill above the city, a former church that is now called the castle.

Currently ( January 2011), there is a travel warning by the German Foreign Office for the city.
