Majid Arslan

Majid Arslan Taufiq (Arabic مجيد توفيق أرسلان Majid Arslan Taufiq, born February 1908 in Choueifat, Beirut Vilayet, Ottoman Empire, † September 18, 1983 in Chaldeh, south of Beirut ) was a Lebanese Druze leader and national hero. He was chief of the Arslan family, one of the two ruling Druze families, Arslan and Jumblatt.

Emir Majid Arslan was the chairman of the Yazbaki faction. He was a political national figure and played an important role as a long-time since 1931 Member of the Lebanese Parliament and government minister in the independence of Lebanon. He was from 1937 to 1975 very many and various ministerial portfolios, including especially the defense, health, telecommunications, agriculture and justice. He was also elected in the parliamentary elections in 1943 and most recently in the elections in 1972 in the National Assembly.

He is the son of the Emir Taufiq Arslan who helped in 1920 the process of founding the United Lebanon. Majid Arslan studied at the famous French school, the mission Laique Francaise. His son Talal Arslane is the chairman of the Lebanese Democratic Party.
