Atoll

Majuro ( Marshallese Mãjro ) is the capital of the Marshall Islands. She lies on her consisting of 64 islands of the same name Majuro Atoll. The majority of the population is concentrated there to the field " Delap - Majuro Darrit ", located on the land of the islands Delap, Majuro and Darrit.

The island group " Delap - Majuro Darrit " is called by some, especially German, sources (incorrectly) as the capital of the Marshall Islands.

Geography

Island Darrit

On the northern island Darrit, which is usually called by the marshalers Rita, are the most important government buildings, churches, banks and government agencies.

Majuro island

Majuro is the busiest part of the capital; here you can find lined by shops, stores and offices roads that may seem almost big city, the population density on the Majuro Atoll is so high as that of the metropolis of Hong Kong.

Island Delap

On the southern island Delap the Capitol are ( parliamentary seat ) and copra and a soap factory, which can be visited. In Majuro find yourself next to a sports center with stadium also some hotels and inns, a large bowling center, restaurants and a cinema with the current program.

At Delap include four smaller islands, Biggariat and Eniligere ( between Delap and Majuro in the north), and Utwe and Enirak ( between Delap and Rairok the west).

Population

In the urban center Majuro lived 2009 around 19,418 inhabitants. The last census result of 1 June 1999 was 15,486 inhabitants of the metropolitan area.
