Makassar Strait

Geographical location

The Makassar Strait is a strait between the Indonesian part of Borneo and the island of Sulawesi ( Celebes ).

It connects the Celebes Sea in the north to the Java Sea in the south and is always an important sea; they owes its name to the port city of Makassar on Sulawesi. Other neighboring ports are Balikpapan and Palu.

Through the Strait of Makassar, the Wallace line, the biogeographic separation of Asia and Australia is running.
