Makbule Atadan

Makbule Atadan (* 1885 in Thessaloniki, Salonica Vilayet, Ottoman Empire; † 18 January 1956 in Ankara) was the sister of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of Turkey's state. She was the only surviving sister of Ataturk, while her other four siblings died in childhood.

She grew up as the daughter of Ali Riza Efendi on in the then Ottoman Thessaloniki and moved to the Balkan wars with her mother Hanim Zübeyde to Constantinople Opel (now Istanbul).

After the founding of the Republic in 1923, she moved with her ​​mother in the new capital of Ankara, assisted by her brother Mustafa Kemal Pasha, who was on the day of the first president of the Republic of Turkey.

1930 Makbule Hanim became politically active by joining the newly formed opposition Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası ( Free Republican Party SCF) by Fethi Okyar. However, their political career ended soon because the party was a few months later closed by Fethi Bey himself.

Makbule married in 1935 Mecdi Boysan, a CHP deputies in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Later she lived in Camli Köşk ( Glass Pavillion ), a 1936 built for them by Villa within the garden of the presidential Çankaya Köşkü.

She published her memoirs in her books " Büyük kardesim Atatürk " ( Atatürk, My Big Brother, 1952) and " Ağabeyim Mustafa Kemal " ( Mustafa Kemal, my brother; 1952). Makbule Atadan died on 18 January 1956 in Ankara at the age of 71 years and was later buried in the Cebeci - Asri Cemetery.
