Makedonski Železnici

The Macedonian Railways ( Macedonian Македонски железници, short МЖ, in Latin script Makedonski železnici, short MZ) are a state-owned railway infrastructure and railway transport companies in Macedonia. You operate the state-owned rail network of 925 kilometers usually gauge (1435 mm ), of which 315 km to the railway power system 25 kV 50 Hz AC electrified. Rail network

The first standard gauge railway line in the country was created 1873/74 in Thessaloniki on Skopje to Kosovska Mitrovica. Carrier was headed by Baron Hirsch Compagnie des Chemins de Fer Orientaux (CO). The combination of Skopje to the Serbian border station Ristovac was completed only in 1888. Tabanovce - Kumanovo -Skopje - Veles - Gevgelija

The electrified and single-track main line from north to south runs from Niš in Serbia to the Aegean port city of Thessaloniki in Greece. Along the Pan-European Corridor X are the stations Tabanovce, Kumanovo, Skopje, Zelenikovo, Veles, Negotino, Demir Kapija, Miravci and the frontier station Gevgelija, whose Greek neighbor is Idomeni.

Kumanovo Beljakovci

From Kumanovo runs eastward a railway line to Beljakovci. This is in the context of the development of the Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII according to plans from 2012 from 2013 to 2022Vorlage: be / In 5 years, expanded and extended by future Gjueschewo (Bulgaria).

Skopje - Fushë Kosova / Kosovo Polje

From Skopje a link road to the north- west over Volkovo after Fushë Kosova / Kosovo Polje (Kosovo).

Skopje - Zajas - Kičevo

Also of capital performs a non-electrified railway line to the west across Tetovo, Gostivar, Zajas after Kičevo. This train replaced a narrow gauge railway with the 600 mm gauge.

Veles - Kocani

At the railway junction Veles has the main line connection to the eastern railway line to Kocani about Stip.

Veles - Bakarno Gumno - Kremenica

From the same node, the south-western railway line via Bogomila, Prilep and Bitola Bakarno Gumno which was traveled on to earlier Kremenica or even Florina (Greece).

Narrow Gauge Railways

Narrow gauge railway routes exist between Zajas and Tajmište and between Bakarno Gumno and Sopotnica.

Railway lines

Intercity trains link the stations Kumanovo, Skopje, Zelenikovo, Veles, Negotino ( Kavadarci ), Demir Kapija, Miravci ( Valandovo ) and Gevgelija ( Bogdanci ) with Serbia and Greece. After Bulgaria, the train journey is only possible via Niš or Thessaloniki. Even in Kosovo operate out InterCity trains from Skopje.

Expansion plans

In clarification was in August 2008, a new railway line in east-west direction ( about Beljakovci, Kumanovo, Skopje, Tetovo, Gostivar and Kicevo ) to VIII connect the Black Sea port of Varna in Bulgaria with the Albanian port city of Durres as part of the Pan-European Transport Corridor.

The cross-border railway line Bitola - Florina (Greece ) has been closed down for years. The Mayor Bitolas advocates that this route resumes operation.
