Makers (novel)

Makers by Cory Doctorow is a novel. This was published in October 2009 and is freely available on the author's website under the license Creative Commons BY-NC -SA.

Action

The book is based on a story in the near future by Lester and Perry, two hardware hackers, and Suzanne, a journalist. Lester and Perry build devices using 3D printers or print things out in order to sell them. Kettlewell, CEO of Kodak and Duracell will notice it and sends the journalist Suzanne on site to report on this in her blog. The products manufactured by Lester and Perry are then produced and sold in large quantities. Lester and Perry Then open an interactive museum and be sued by Disney. As they file a counter suit, there is a out of court settlement and Lester goes to Disney for them to manufacture new products.
