Maki Asakawa

Maki Asakawa (Japanese浅川 マキ; born January 27, 1942 in Hakusan, Ishikawa Prefecture, † January 17, 2010 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture) was a Japanese singer, songwriter and producer.

Life and work

She began her career in Tokyo as a singer in cabarets and before members of the U.S. armed forces. Their first EP was released in Tokyo Banka RCA Victor in 1967. Wider recognition she received in 1968 by recordings of Terayama Shuji organized a three-day concert series in Shinjuku. Shortly after, she signed a contract with the label EMI Music Japan. For the movie Throw the books away and takes to the streets of Terayama Shuji she wrote in 1971 the film music and played a supporting role. They also worked with jazz musicians Yosuke Yamashita, Akira Sakata and the composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.

She was found on 17 January 2010 by staff in a hotel room in Nagoya dead. The cause of death a disease is accepted.
