Makoko

Makoko is composed mainly of lake dwellings in the municipality of Lagos Mainland Local Government Area ( circle ) of the metropolis of Lagos State in Nigeria Lagos State.

Geography

Makoko is on the western edge of the lagoon from Lagos. The estimated in the 2007 census population was 85,840 people. The inhabitants are involved in the majority of fishing, woodworking and retail.

History

According to the local lore Makoko was founded in the 18th century by fishermen. Since the 19th century the community into an important center for the processing of logs which are floated down to the present day in the lake-dwelling was. In the 20th century the extraction of sand for the construction industry was more important.
