Makololo tribe

Kololo is an ethnic group of the Sotho, the beginning of the 19th century because of the wars of the Zulukönigs Shaka - in the context of the Mfecane - fled to the north and west central Africa moved north of the Victoria Falls.

Beaten by the Tswana, Sotho chief Sebetswane led his tribe in 1840 on the Zambezi River in present-day Nordwestsambia, where he conquered the kingdom of the Barotse ( Lozi ), which had been built there in the 18th century and from then Westsambia had dominated. Beginning in 1864, many Kololo a malaria epidemic fell victim. In addition, a weak and sickly king ascended the throne, which favored the Lozi and the hegemony of the Kololo put an end to. Nevertheless, until today Lozi, a Sotho, a common language in this region.
