Maków Mazowiecki

Maków Mazowiecki (Polish until 1928 Maków nad Orzycem, German Makow, 1941-1945 Mackeim ) is a city and seat of the municipality in the powiat Makowski Masovian Voivodeship in Poland.

Geography

The river Orzyc ( Orschütz ), a tributary of the Narew, is located in the city. The city has a surface area of 10.30 km ². 58 % of the urban area is used for agriculture, 9% is covered by forest

History

From 1939 to 1945 Makow was renamed in 1941 in Mackeim, the county seat of County Mackeim. He was part of the new government district Zichenau the province of East Prussia.

During the occupation period was from 1941 to 1942 a ghetto for about 3,500 Jews who were deported to the murder in the Treblinka extermination camp.
