Mala Rijeka Viaduct

The Mala Rijeka viaduct is a 498.8 m long bridge of the railway Belgrade - Bar in Montenegro. With 198 m height above valley floor and 137.5 m high pillars, it is the highest railway bridge in Europe.

The 1969 to 1973 built single-track bridge structure spans between the railway stations Kolasin and Bioče the deeply cut valley of the river Mala Rijeka.

The girder bridge has a static system in the longitudinal direction, a continuous beam with five fields in which spans of 81.2 m, 92.8 m, 150.8 m, 92.8 m and 81.2 m has. Except for a final field, the bridge is curved in plan.

The 2650 -ton superstructure is a truss girders made ​​of steel. It consists of two spaced at a distance of 6.5 m to 12 m high diamond trusses with parallel top and bottom chords, which are interconnected with wind associations. The track runs inside the box girder above the lower wind bracing.

The piers are founded upon a rock, with 8000 cubic meters of concrete was required for each foundation. The manufacture of the pillars was performed with a sliding form, the superstructure was erected by the balanced cantilever.
