Mälardalen University College

The University of Mälardalen ( Mälardalens högskola, MDH ) consists of a campus in Västerås and Eskilstuna. With around 12,000 students, it is one of the largest universities in Sweden. Rector is Karin Röding. The University of Mälardalen in 1999 certified as the world's first university, according to the international environmental standard ISO 14001. In addition, the university in 2006 was the first in the world to be certified according to OHSAS 18001 for their working conditions.

History

In 1977, the university as a reaction of the region is based on the skills shortage in technical professions as högskolan i Eskilstuna / Västerås. With funding from the company ABB first teachers were hired. After the university had initially rented in different buildings, 1985, the school building of the former Zimmermannska School first seat of the university. 1989 with Lillemor Kim became the first woman high school principal in Sweden. In 1993 the college was renamed Mälardalens Högskola. Since 1995, Master's degrees are awarded in Västerås and Eskilstuna. 1998 is the computer scientist Hans Hansson first professor at the MDH. In the same year the new high school building was inaugurated in Eskilstuna. 2002 following the completion of the new headquarters in Västerås. 2007 comes with the campus telco in Södertälje, a third location added.

Organization

The employees of the university work in four institutions, the administration and the library. The four institutions ( Sw: Akademi ) are:
