Maldivian Democratic Party

The Maldivian Democratic Party ( dhivehi: ދ ި ވ ެ ހ ި ރ ަ އ ް ޔ ި ތ ު ނ ް ގ ެ ޑ ި މ ޮ ކ ް ރ ެ ޓ ި ކ ް ޕ ާ ޓ ީ ) is a liberal political party in the Maldives, which campaigns for human rights and democracy on the island group. Because the Maldivian Democratic Party was not allowed to be registered, she first worked out in Sri Lanka from exile. On 26 June 2005, the MDP was finally admitted. The candidate of MDP Mohamed Nasheed won in the 2008 presidential election against former dictator Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. President Nasheed came back, however, after an attempted coup on 7 February 2012. Currently, the party is in opposition.
