Malé Svatoňovice

Malé Svatoňovice ( German Klein Schwadowitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located 11 km east of Trutnov and belongs to Okres Trutnov.

Geography

Malé Svatoňovice located at the foot of the mountain hawk at the transition to Hertiner furrow ( Rtyňská Brázda ). In the village rises the brook Lesní creek. History

About the first coal discovery in the hawk mountain, which took place in 1590 at Markausch reported the Trutnov chronicler Simon Hüttel.

At the same time, a hydropathic establishment was founded. Since that time Svatoňovice became an important place of pilgrimage.

At the end of the 18th century were discovered east of Svatoňovice on the slopes of mountain hawk coal deposits. 1800 began the advance of the Xavier - Erbstollens. At the foot of the mountain a mining settlement, which was called Studánka svatoňovická ( Schwadowitzer Brünnl ) or Svatoňovičky (small Schwadowitz ) was born. 1826 place Schwadowitz ( Svatoňovice ) in the two villages small Schwadowitz (Malé Svatoňovice ) and Great Schwadowitz ( Velké Svatoňovice ) was divided. In small Schwadowitz first a spa doctor was a well, doctor, later a resident. As the first doctor is out of the 1840 Dr. Seidel narrated the playful his money in the lottery. In the heyday of the bath the wrong doctor " Dr. " Unzeitig worked in small Schwadowitz who introduced the Kneipp medicine. Beginning in 1883, had MUDr. Antonín Čapek, the father of the Čapek brothers as spa doctor in small Schwadowitz.

Until the abolition of serfdom in 1848 Malé Svatoňovice belonged to the rule Náchod, which also operated the coal industry. To January 1, 1850 Malé Svatoňovice became a part of the community Svatoňovice. 1851 Mining Authority was set up in small Schwadowitz. The South-North German railway connection built 1857-1859, the railway branch line from Josef City to Schwadowitz, which was extended in 1868 to the Prussian border at Königshan. 1861 a post office was established. 1871 was the mining settlement Mexico. 1875 Wilhelm had set up a Czech school of Schaumburg -Lippe. On January 28, 1880 Malé Svatoňovice was separated from Velké Svatoňovice and an independent village.

In the birthplace of Karel Čapek was born in 1946 the Museum of the Čapek brothers. Since 1976, the villages of Petrovice Strážkovice and Odolov include as districts to Malé Svatoňovice. In 1991, the coal industry has been set. Since 25 May 2006, the municipality performs a coat of arms and a flag.
