It joins to the south lies on Macedonian territory Galičica Mountains and separates as just this basin of Lake Ohrid from Prespabecken. In the southwest and south of the Mali i Thate includes the Presparegion against the high level of Korca. The eastern slopes of the mountains belong partly to the Prespa National Park.

With 2287 m Pllaja e Pusit is the highest mountain of the mountains. Only in one place in the south crosses a road up the mountain at the Zvezda Pass ( Alb. Qafa e Zvezdës ). The 1099 m high pass connects Liqenas on Lake Prespa with the county town of Korca. Just east of the pass rises the 1768 meters high Mali i Ivanit.

The name Dry Mountain carries the mountains to right, because in fact there are hardly any water sources in these mountains and not a single larger stream rises here.

In the mountains many wolves live, and occasionally bears are in the north on the border with Macedonia observed.

Ecological problems

Were densely covered with mixed oak forest in the middle altitudes in the past, Mali i Thate is largely deforested today. The inhabitants of the surrounding villages have their fuel has always been based out of the forest, and to date there is heated with wood and cooked. Far heavier the forest but was damaged by illegal logging organized on a grand scale. This happened especially in the years 1991-1998, when the state power in Albania was particularly weakened and last but not least the widespread corruption contributed their part, that the protection of the forest was impossible. When the big old trees were once cut down, also the natural regeneration was prevented, because you could feed many goats on the slopes, which ate up the young trees bare. Meanwhile, efforts are at least in the area of Prespa National Park to protect the trees. However, no regrowth forest because of the erosion on many steep slopes. Old trees still exist today in the most remote area west of the village of Gorica e Madhe. Between this place and Gollomboç now grows a protected by the park rangers secondary forest.

On Zvezda Pass lime is broken and also fired on the spot. Thus, the area is partially destroyed, added the strong emissions of the kilns.
