Malik BeyleroÄŸlu

Beyleroğlu Malik ( born January 21, 1970) is a former Turkish amateur boxer. His greatest achievement was winning the silver medal in the middleweight division at the Summer Olympics of 1996.

Career

At the 7th 1993 World Championships in Tampere, Finland, he started in the light middleweight. He defeated Edward Narbuts from Latvia ( 8:3 ), but then defeated the Cuban Alfredo Duvergel on points. In June the same year he won the silver medal at the 12th Mediterranean Games in Narbonne in the light middleweight. He only lost in the final of the Bosnian Almedin Fetahović on points.

At the 30th European Championship 1993 in Bursa, he won against Pavel Polakovič from the Czech Republic ( 17:9 ), but then lost against Sergei Marchuk by disqualification. In August 1994, he lost in the 3rd Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg against the Dutch Turkish origin Orhan Delibaş ( 1:7 ).

At the 8th World Championships in Berlin in 1995 he lost again against Cuban Alfredo Duvergel on points. He then moved to middleweight.

There he defeated in the 31 European Championship in April 1996 in Vejle, the Greeks Mihalis Aslanidis ( 14:3 ) before he was defeated by Akaki Kakauridse from Georgia ( 2:5 ).

His greatest success was that in the 26th Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, where he entered the finals of Algeria by point victories against Zsolt Erdei from Hungary, Tomasz Borowski from Poland and Mohamed Bahari. There he had to the Cubans Ariel Hernández beaten on points, reaching second place. He was the first Turkish boxer in Olympic history, which penetrated up to a final.

At 26, Golden Belt Tournament in May 1997 in Constanţa, he won gold in the middleweight division. He outclassed in an impressive battle the reigning English champion Ian Cooper with a 15-0 points victory. He also defeated the Russians Dmitri Strelchinin ( 7:4 ) and the Romanian Iulian Ioniţă ( 9:3 ).

The 13th Mediterranean Games in June 1997 in Bari, he finished with the bronze medal in the middleweight division after he was inferior to the Italian Raffaele Bergamasco in the semifinals. In September the same year he met when Muhammad Ali Cup in Louisville (Kentucky) to the later pro - European Champion Brian Magee and subject to that just on points ( 7:9 ).

In 1999, he boxed in the light heavyweight division at the Black Sea Cup in Sevastopol and at the 21st Tammer Tournament in Tampere, without reaching the medal ranks. At 28 Chemistry Cup in March 2000 in Hall shortly after he lost points against the German Mathias Kempe.

He received a Ph.D. doctoral degree and teaches sports at the Sakarya University.
