Mallard is a markup language, which is to support the creation of help pages ( user manuals ) for programs. The language is currently being promoted as part of the Gnome project and is not yet completed.

Mallard is an XML format that is similar to DocBook, a logical structure of a document purports which is then converted into a help browser into readable, Linked Sites. Headliners different concepts, such as help pages and topics that a special help page can be achieved in different ways.

Currently Gnome programs use such as Empathy or Calculator Mallard as documentation.

The display of the Mallard pages is currently in the Gnome help browser yelp possible. Other output formats are creatable via the command line, but this is currently only available on the sources on gitorious possible:

  • Dot
