Geography and transport

The community Malschwitz lies on the north bank of the Bautzen Reservoir and south of the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape. Within the village there are several large ponds. History

The place name is of Slavic origin; before the year 1000 Milzener Fürstengut and after 1000 a royal TafelGUT to Klein Bautzen and Preititz was mentioned. The first recorded mention of the place as Malswiz comes from 1225th 1430 Malschwitz is called a knight 's seat.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia Arnost Muka determined in the eighties of the 19th century for the city had a total population of 582 inhabitants; which were 554 Sorbs ( 95%) and 28 German. In the 20th century the use of Sorbian in Malschwitz has declined sharply.
