Malu Mare

Malu Mare is a municipality in Dolj county in the region Oltenia in Romania. The village with about 3500 inhabitants, consists of the villages Malu Mare and Preajba.

Location

The municipality is located 6 kilometers south-east of Craiova on the National Road (drum National) DN 55 The Jiu River traverses the municipality in southwestern direction. Surrounded are the locations of a fertile plain, which is dominated by grain fields and pastures.

History

Malu Mare is a typical example of a Romanian satellite city on the outskirts of the small Wallachia. For a long time the village was very rural coined because agriculture could be operated on a large scale in the fertile soil. The community consisted at that time of only a few yards, but the enormous growth of cities Craiova under the communist regime in the country and the measures for population resettlement have let the numbers of inhabitants by Malu Mare rise significantly. Malu Mare is also a well-known locality of relics from the Hallstatt period.

Economy

In Malu Mare there are a number of different industries. In addition to the traditional wood crafts, agriculture and livestock, there are also modern services, including retail, warehousing and road construction.

Tourism

The most famous building of the church is the Church of Preajba. East of the village there are several small lakes, which are suitable for swimming. Above all residents of Craiova visit the rural community, to recover over the weekend.
