The Australian singer ( Maluridae ) are endemic in Australia and New Guinea family in the order of perching birds ( Passeriformes ). They resemble the wrens, without being more closely related to these. This family includes 14 Season tail types, 3 types of bristle tails and 10 Grasswren.

As with so many Australian species also Maluridae were formerly often erroneously incorporated into known families. They were assigned to the flycatchers, warblers -like and the babblers. Only at the end of the 60s the close relationship of the three species was recognized and introduced in 1975, the family of Australian scientists. Due to the advances in DNA analysis end of the twentieth century, the system was further lightened: Today, the Australian singer are considered close relatives of the honey -eater, Panther birds and snap. The similarity to the European and American wrens explained by convergent evolution of not more closely related species occupy the same ecological niche.
