Mama (David Whitfield song)

Mom is an Italian pop from the year 1938. Was written by Cesare Andrea Bixio Italian composer with a text by Bruno Cherubini for the tenor Beniamino Gigli. It is characteristic that the verses are in a minor key, the chorus the other hand, in the major.

In 1940, on the basis of the song of the musical film Mamma as Italian - German co-production from a screenplay Guido Cantinis and directed by Guido Brignone. Gigli played there the young tenor Mario Sarni, Emma Gramatica whose mother Carola Höhn and his young bride Donata. The orchestra has been led by Dino Olivieri. Published in 1941 and the film in Germany under the title of mother thereof. The song is sung there under the same title with a text by Bruno Balz of Herbert Ernst Groh.

In the following years, further versions of the song very different character appeared. The successful interpretation reached the Dutchman Heintje, the eleven years old recited it at a talent contest and thus established his career as a child star, particularly in Germany. The recording was titled " Mama " was released in October 1967 and became the biggest selling single in 1968 in Germany.
