Mamady Keïta

Mamady Keïta ( born August 1950 in Balandugu, Guinea ) is a Guinean musician, artist and Djembefola for players of the djembe drum.

Biography

The in a village in Wassolon (Province of Siguiri ) was born near the river Fé son of a huntsman and fida tigi ( master of plants and medicine man ) has been introduced as a child in the Djembe Art of Karinkadjan Kondé. 1964, at age 14, he was selected to go to the National Ballet Djoliba as Hauptdjemebéfola and soloist. From 1979 to 1986 he worked there as an artistic director.

Keïta undertook numerous tours through Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States.

In 1986 he began his work with the Ballet Kotéba by Souleymane Koli in Abidjan and played in the following year with the film La Vie Platinée by Claude Cadiou.

In 1988 he moved to Brussels in Belgium and offered rates for the Djembe, especially for Mandingo rhythms to. He led them first in collaboration with the École Repercussions, and later with his own school ( TamTam Mandingo ). In the same year he founded the group Sewa Kan, with their traditional Mandingo music several times he went on tour in 1994 on a first expanded to Japan.

In 1990 he organized the first course with repercussion for Percussion and African dances in Guinea in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Guinea and the National Ballet Djoliba.

The resulting 1996 album Hamana is dedicated to the eponymous Guinean region. Then you can hear Doundoumba rhythms (rhythm family).
