Mamie Locke

Mamie E. Locke ( born March 19, 1954 in Brandon, Mississippi) is an American high school teacher and politician (Democratic Party). Since 2004 she is a Senator in the Senate of Virginia, representing the second district there.

Life

Locke attended Tougaloo College and received in 1976 a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science. She then studied political science at Atlanta University, where she received a Master of Arts in 1978 and her Ph.D. in 1984 made. In 1986, she attended the American University of Cairo.

Locke is Professor of Political Science at Hampton University and practicing since 1996, the Office of the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts, a School of the University of.

Locke's political career began in Hampton, Virginia. From 1996 to 2004 she served on the Hampton City Council. During this time she held from 1998 to 2000, the Office of the Vice Mayor and between 2000 and 2004, the mayor.
