Mammillaria longimamma

Mammillaria longimamma is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The epithet of the species means langwarzig.

Description

Mammillaria longimamma grows usually first individually, later branching from the base and forming small groups. Their roots are somewhat bulbous. The ball-shaped, glossy green shoots reach a stature height and a diameter 8 to 15 centimeters. The far away from each other, long warts are soft fleshy, cylindrical and have an elliptical cross -section. They are without milk juice. In the axils sparsely wool is available. The central spine from which sometimes 2 to 3 are present, but may be absent is long whitish with a dark tip and up to 25 millimeters. The white to pale brown 8 to 10 radial spines are pfriemähnlich, straight, or slightly bent and 12 to 20 millimeters long.

The canary-yellow, funnel- shaped flowers have a length and a diameter of 4-6 centimeters. The stamens are yellow, the to 8 -piece scar is green 5. The spherical to ovoid yellow fruits are 10 to 12 millimeters long and contain brown, inversely egg-shaped dotted seeds.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Mammillaria longimamma is common in the Mexican states of Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Querétaro and San Luis Potosí.

The first description was in 1828 by Augustin- de Candolle Pyrame. Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put 1923 on the now- recognized, three kinds comprehensive, generic Dolichothele and took the species as Dolichothele longimamma therein.

In the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN, the type is known as " Vulnerable (VU) ," ie, performed as endangered.
