Mandelholz Dam

The almond wood Dam ( also: flood control basin Cold Bode) is a flood control reservoir and is located between the towns of misery and Königshütte the city Upper am Brocken in the Harz Mountains. They dammed the Cold Bode at high water.

The dam was built from 1952 to 1957 and consists of an earth dam with integral control gear made ​​of concrete. To protect the dam from flooding, overflow was fitted as a spillway south of it. The last time the dam overflowed at high tide in 1994.

In almond wood on the Wormke ( at the rear of the almond wood dam ) are also the remains of an older dam, the almond wood pond that supplied from the 1612 almond Holzerhütte with water. The flood of 1855 destroyed the dam, and it was never rebuilt.
