Mando Diao

Mando Diao is a Swedish rock band from Borlänge, which was founded in 1999. Most success has the band in Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan. Band members are Gustaf Norén (vocals, guitar), Björn Dixgård (vocals, guitar), Carl -Johan Fogelklou ( bass) and Mats Björke (keyboard).

History

The mid-1990s founded Björn Dixgård and the first Mando Diao keyboardist Daniel Haglund, both from the Swedish Borlänge, their first joint tape Butler. Gustaf Norén 1996 came to and was the second front man and guitarist. In 1999 completed Carl -Johan Fogelklou on bass and drummer Samuel Gier as the original members of the band. 2004 Daniel Haglund left the band due to a number of smaller conflicts; the vacant position on the keyboard was filled by Mats Björke.

In the years after its inception, the band has toured numerous clubs and bars in the whole of Sweden, creating in this way a small fan base. 2000 of them helped, also from Borlänge MTV presenter Tommy Gärdh to a recording contract with EMI and took over the management of the group.

Bring ' Em In, their debut album, released in September 2002, gave Mando Diao consistently good reviews and was, like the first single Sheepdog, a great national achievement. Catchy riffs and melodies in the style of the 1960s and 1970s as well as the distinctive voices of the two singers inspired many music fans. However, some accused the band also arrogance and overconfidence. So Gustaf Norén once claimed, Bring ' Em In is better than all of The Who, The Small Faces and The Kinks and a more rounded affair than much of the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.

Following their commercial breakthrough Mando Diao went with other local rock bands like The Hellacopters and Kent on tour in Sweden and the Scandinavian countries. 2003, they were also known internationally as the mobile network operator E-Plus used the song Lady for one of his commercials. For this reason, and the then incipient boom Sweden by musicians such as The Hives, Moneybrother or The (International ) Noise Conspiracy, Bring ' Em In in March 2004 was also published in Germany.

Initially still a secret, the band gained more and more notoriety among German rock fans throughout the year. Their second album Hurricane Bar, which was released in January 2005, popped straight into the top 30 album charts. Due to this success was Mando Diao 2004/2005 on tour in Germany and played at numerous festivals, including the Hurricane, Southside, Rock am Ring, Rock im Park, MTV Campus Invasion, Tauber Openair and the One King Live Meeting. On 13 August 2005, she appeared on the Sziget Festival in Budapest. On August 24, 2006 Ode to Ochrasy came on the market. The album, heralded by the early single from the album Long Before Rock ' n ' Roll was so praised by many print and online magazines and music from Express and regarded as the best album of the Swedes at all. In Germany it came to number three on the album charts.

The end of 2006 their first DVD was released with the name Down in the Past. It is a documentary about the time of the creation Mando Diao's up to the present, accompanied by many rare TV clips, interviews, concert clips, backstage experiences and unreleased songs. In July 2007 they were headliners at the Live Earth concert in Hamburg, also in August 2007 at the Open Flair. On 26 October 2007 the fourth album was released, entitled Never Seen the Light of Day.

The fifth album called Give Me Fire! appeared on 13 February 2009; the first single of the album, Dance with Somebody, was released on 9 January 2009 and reached # 2 on the charts in Germany, in Austria even the first place: making it the most successful single Mando Diao. In 2009, she was at festivals like Rock am Ring and Rock im Park. They were nominated for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2009, but the award went to the Swedish singer Agnes.

On 11 November 2010 the MTV Unplugged by Mando Diao was first broadcast on Freeview, where only certain songs were shown. The album for MTV Unplugged, Above and Beyond, a day later appeared. Since 3 December 2010, the DVD / Blu -ray of MTV Unplugged is on the market.

On 31 October 2012, the sixth studio album Infruset was released in Sweden; it is the first album of the band in their native Swedish and ten poems set to music by the Swedish poet Gustaf Fröding occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2011. The album was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on November 2, 2012 on the market. The premiere of the album took place on 28 October 2012 as part of a live theater events with broadcasts in cinemas and theaters in Sweden, Germany and Switzerland.

In Sweden, the album was an instant smash hit, reaching in the very first week of release in first place in the charts. Quadruple platinum in 2013 and a Swedish Grammis Award for best folk song was the result. The single Strövtåg i hembygden was represented for a year in November 2013 without interruption in the Swedish top ten charts. In addition Infruset is the first album by Mando Diao, which has gained a foothold in the Norwegian charts. Side project Caligola

Under the name Caligola been around since the 1970s, there is a network of diverse artists in Stockholm. 2008 occurred in Björn Gustaf Norén and Dixgård this group. Trivia
