Manolo (footballer)

Manuel Sánchez Delgado ( born January 17, 1965 in Cáceres), also known as Manolo, is a former Spanish footballer.

Career

Association

Manolo started his career in his hometown at CP Cacereño. After two seasons with CE Sabadell 1985 he moved to Real Murcia and rose with the club immediately to the Primera División. His debut in the Spanish top flight, he celebrated on August 31, 1986 against Real Madrid. In the course of this game that was lost with 1:3, Manolo scored his first of a total of 21 top-flight goals for Real Murcia.

For the 1988/89 season Manolo Atlético Madrid was signed. In the Spanish capital, he celebrated alongside his strike partner Paulo Futre the greatest successes of his career. Atlético won the 1991 and 1992 Copa del Rey. In addition, Manolo secured in the 1991/92 season with 27 goals the title of the scorer.

In 1995 he left the club, leaving his career at UD Mérida in the Segunda División finish.

National

Manolo denied a total of 28 caps for the Spanish national team. The first of nine international goals he scored during his debut on November 16, 1988 against Ireland. He also represented his country at the 1990 World Cup in Italy.
