Manpuku-ji

The Obaku -san Mampuku -ji (Japanese黄 檗 山 万 福寺) is the main temple of the Japanese Obaku Zen School, as are about 460 temples in Japan.

The temple was built in 1661 by the Chinese monk Ingen Longqi (Chinese隐 元 隆 琦, Pinyin Yǐnyuán Longqi; jap Ingen Ryuki; 1592-1673 ) and founded his pupil Muyan and is in Uji, located near Kyoto.

In memory of his Chinese master Temple, Wan -fu- si (福寺 万, wan-fu - sì ) on Mount Huang -bo (黄 檗 山, Huang bò Shan) in Fujian gave master Ingen the new temple of the same name (on Japanese) " Mampuku -ji " and called the hill " Obaku -san " in honor of the Chinese Chan master Huangbo Xiyun from the 9th century. Master Huangbo Xiyun (Japanese Obaku ) had been the teacher of Linji (Jap. Rinzai ) and Ingen wanted to use this prestige for the renewal of both the Japanese Rinzai, as well as the Soto Zen.

The temple is built in the Chinese style of the Ming Dynasty. It was not until the fourteenth abbot went to the temple of the hand of Chinese monks in the Japanese monks over.
