Manucher Ghorbanifar

Manouchehr Ghorbanifar (* 1945 ), called Gorby, is an Iranian arms dealer and intelligence informant.

Ghorbanifar is said to have passed over U.S. plans important information. He was a former employee of the 8 offices ( counterintelligence ) of SAVAK under the leadership of General Hashemi and later spokesman for the Prime Minister Shapur Bakhtiar. He was one of the most important middlemen during the Iran - Contra affair. He was an informant of the National Security Council of the United States and the CIA during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. After suspicions arose that Ghorbanifar was not a reliable source, CIA Director William Casey Joseph ordered three polygraph tests, which all Ghorbanifar did not exist. As a result, a Burn Notice was written, Manouchehr Ghorbanifar classified as unreliable and untrustworthy and burned as an informant.
