Manulea palliatella

The Ochre Yellow lichen Little Bear ( Eilema palliatella ) is a butterfly (moth ) from the subfamily of the tiger moths ( Arctiinae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 32-36 millimeters. They have elongated, pale ocher- yellow, slightly pale greyish forewings, which may be dark in color around the head. The upper edge is indistinct strong yellow. In the males find themselves in contrast to E. complana no scent scales ( Androkonien ) in the middle of the forewing underside. The hind wings are yellow. They have a gray scale counts on the underside of the top edge. The body is dark.

The caterpillars are light beige in color and have the back two black lines on the sides and one each black point row. They have short, bristly, light-colored hair.

Occurrence and distribution

They are found in South and Central Europe. In Western Europe, they are only found in certain areas. They live in warm, sunny slopes, in sandy places and on dry pine heaths. They are found up to an altitude of 1,900 meters.

Flight times and caterpillars

The Ochre Yellow lichen bear flies in one generation from the beginning to the end of August. The caterpillars occur from mid-May to mid-July in appearance. However, this present data are sparse

Way of life

The moths are very heat -loving. They can be attracted by light at night.

Food of the caterpillars

The caterpillars feed on stone and Erdflechten, but they are also found in blue green fiber screen ( Trinia glauca ) and gold Aster (Aster linosyris ). These plants tower above the vegetation, which the caterpillars allows, under whose inflorescences to escape from the bottom heat.
