Mapo District

Mapo -gu is a district of Seoul. The district was created Mapo November 1944 from a part of Seodaemoon -gu and Yongsan -gu.

Location

Mapo -gu is located north of the Han output. To the north, the Seoul World Cup Stadium, which opened in November 2001, is located. After the south it is from the district of Yongsan -gu ( 용산구 ) delimited. To the west it borders short of Jung-gu ( 중구 ), then comes Seodaemun -gu ( 서대문구 ) and north of the Eunpyeong -gu ( 은평구 ). In Mapo -gu, there are many houses and especially larger universities which shape the image. The Sogang University and Hongik University are located in Mapo -gu, while the Yonsei University and Ewha University in neighboring Seodaemun -gu are. Also there is the Japanese school in Mapo -gu. The district is also known that here K-pop labels like YG Entertainment have their headquarters.

Management

The Mapo -gu is headed by the mayor Bak Hong - seop since 2010. There live about 400,000 people in this district. The administration is divided into five departments. The main office is located near the metro station Mapo -gu - cheong ( 마포구 청 ).

Hongdae

Hongdae ( 홍대 ) is an abbreviation of the Korean name of the Hongik Hongik University Daehakgyo ( 홍익 대학교 ). The term refers to the area around the University, which is known as the student quarter for its nightlife. Here there are many nightclubs, bars and restaurants. Due to foreign students, the area is comparatively internationally.

Since the Hongik University is known for its artistic program, there are in this area very many stores that are geared to the needs of the many artists / inside. Hongdae is considered next as a musical creative district.
