Special

The Lost City of Mapungubwe Hill, where a highly developed African civilization 1200-1270 had its heyday. Beginning around the year 900, the area was inhabited by a people who have already been processed iron and came through trade with Egypt, India and China to prosperity. Here archaeologists have excavated the famous golden rhino and other evidence of a wealthy African kingdom.

Sandstone formations, mopane and alluvial forests and baobab trees ( baobab ) combine to create a landscape that is home to a variety of wildlife. Elephants, giraffes, white rhinos (including white rhino ), eland and gemsbok and numerous other antelope species have their original natural habitat here. Sometimes you can see lions, leopards and hyenas. Bustards, flute Shrike (Southern boubous ) and Pel- fish owls are among the more than 400 species of birds that make their home here.

The Iron Age civilization of Mapungubwe was not along the Limpopo, as are also the animals have moved freely between the present States of South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe to and fro its limit. For this reason, the three countries signed a memorandum with guidelines for the Limpopo - Shashe Transfrontier Conservation Area ( TFCA ).
