The Mar Elias University is a multi-religious college in Nazareth in Galilee in northern Israel. She is the first Arab- Israeli Christian University in the Holy Land.

History

The university, the teaching started as a branch of the University of Indianapolis ( USA), recorded in October 2003, received in 2009 a comprehensive license as a university by the Council for Higher Education in Israel.

The university was initiated by the Melkite Archbishop of Galilee, Elias Chacour. He has previously founded in 1982 an educational center and secondary schools, which are attended by 4,000 students. These educational institutions are just like this university serve peace and reconciliation between the ethnic groups in Israel.

Organization

The University began her teaching with 71 students and will be expanded to a strength of 3000 students. At the University of Christian, Muslim and Jewish students are enrolled from home and abroad. The faculties are composed interdenominational. The joint study is to contribute towards the integration, reconciliation and peace between the ethnic groups.

The Mar Elias College is part of the " Mar Elias Educational Institutions " ( MEEI ). The campus of the college was laid 2009 by I'billin to Nazareth.
