Marangu

Marangu is a village of about 2,500 inhabitants ( 2005 estimate ) at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, near the border with Kenya.

The importance of the place is that there is the main entrance for all visitors to the Kilimanjaro National Park and the headquarters of the National Park Service here. It is the starting point of the so-called 68 km long Marangu route (also known as Coca-Cola route ) to the summit of Kibo. There are therefore a good infrastructure and regular bus services to the approximately 40 kilometers to the provincial capital Moshi.

A famous inhabitant was Yohani Kinyala Lauwo, mountain guide Hans Meyer during the first ascent of the mountain.
