Marc Fortier

Marc Fortier ( born February 26, 1966 in Sherbrooke, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current coach. During his active career 1983-2005 he played for the Quebec Nordiques in the National Hockey League as well as the polar bear Berlin and Frankfurt Lions in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga.

Career

As a player

Fortier began his career in 1983 in the Canadian Junior Football League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he stood at the Chicoutimi Sagueneens under contract. There, the Center was one of the best offensive players in the league. In his first season he succeeded 46 scorer points in 64 games. This yield point he was able to expand in the following years. His best season in the jersey of Sagueneens was also his last. In the season 1986/87 he scored 201 points scorer in 65 games. Despite the good performance Fortier was never drafted by a franchise of the National Hockey League.

In the summer of 1987 he signed a contract with the Quebec Nordiques of the National Hockey League. Those responsible for the Nordiques put the right-handed shooters but initially at their former farm team, the Fredericton Express, in the American Hockey League. Only in its second season, the Canadians could be established at the Quebec Nordiques. In the 1987/88 season he was used 57 times in the NHL, scoring 39 points. In the following years Fortier played both in the NHL and in the AHL. Since the final breakthrough failed to materialize when the Nordiques, he joined the 1992/93 season the Ottawa Senators on. In the two seasons in Ottawa, he was, however, only ten times the jersey the Senators and instead went mainly for the former farm team in the International Hockey League and the American Hockey League on the ice.

Fortier graduated four games for Team Canada in the 1994/95 season, but was not nominated for the Hockey World Cup 1995. In the four games he graduated, he was able to score a goal and three assists.

During the same season he moved to Europe to Zürcher SC in the Swiss National League A. Three years later he left Switzerland and went to Germany, where he was already in charge of the polar bear Berlin under contract. When the polar bear he belonged in the sequence to the point best strikers and service providers. In addition to the personal results, he could with his new team also celebrate successes. So he reached the second place in the IIHF Continental Cup and the 1999 third place in the European Hockey League with the Berliners in 1997 and 1999. In the summer of 2005 Fortier ended his hockey career at the age of 39 years.

As a coach
