Marc Herremans

Marc Herremans ( born December 19, 1973 in Merksem ) is a Belgian triathlete.

Career

Marc Herremans was in the years 1998 and 1999 Belgian triathlon champion on the Olympic distance (1.5 km swim, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) and at the 2001 Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, he reached the sixth place.

In 2002 he had a serious accident while cycle training on Lanzarote and has been a paraplegic. He started in the episode nevertheless successfully repeated in triathlon at the Ironman distance - alone with his arm strength in the class " handcycle ". He was trained by Paul Van Den Bosch from Antwerp and ambitious, he pursued his goal of becoming Ironman World Champion - which he finally succeeded in 2006.

Were named after him, the " Marc Herremans Classics " in Antwerp until this triathlon was licensed in 2006 as Ironman 70.3 ( 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike and 21.1 km run ).

Marc Herremans today also keeps motivation lectures.
