Marcel Gleffe

Marcel Gleffe (* May 30, 1979 in Teterow ) is an agent working in Norway since 2009 German, of an assassination attempt on the island of Utøya more than twenty people saved 2011 lives and attained as the "savior of Utøya " notoriety in Germany.

The roofer Gleffe graduated from March 1999 to end of July 2000 his military service in the army air defense troops. The military service he extended for participation in an international assignment in Kosovo. He left the Bundeswehr as a corporal of the reserve. Since 2008 he lives in Siggerud in Norway.

At the time of the attack itself Gleffe was at the campsite of Utvika to do there with his parents and a cousin leave. Startled by the shots on the 200 meter remote island Utøya they rushed together to the shore and saw several people who called for help and jumped into the water to escape from the island. Gleffe did not hesitate and drove his rented motor boat several times towards the island and rescued at least 20 young people from the water.

The police arrived only one and a half hours later to ask the assassin on the island.

Honors

For his decisive help Gleffe was awarded on 27 September 2011 by the Association of the German Bundeswehr reservists with the badge of honor in gold. A day later he received the Media Award and Golden Hen on October 4, 2011, the Merit Cross 1st class of the Federal Republic of Germany. On October 14 it a special version of the XY Prize for Civil Courage was awarded in Berlin. In December 2011 Gleffe was honored with the Ludwig -Beck Award for Civil Courage the city of Wiesbaden. On June 15, 2012 Gleffe was honored along with 19 other people, the lives saved in Utoya, with the Norwegian Order of Merit Medaljen for noble Dad ( medal for heroics ) in silver.
