Marcel Höhlig

Marcel Höhlig ( born April 14, 1979 in Rodewisch ) is a former German nordic combined athlete and coach.

Career

The WSV Oberhof 05 for the launching trained chef and Sports soldier of the Bundeswehr Marcel Höhlig began in 1987 with the skiing. In 1995 he won the Germany Cup in the age group of juniors after being in the age group S15 already won the Schülercup in the previous year. Since 1998 he start in international competitions. His debut in the World Cup, he celebrated 2001 at a Gundersenwettbewerb in Kuopio and immediately came to eleventh place. The Klingenthaler came in 2002 in Val di Fiemme in a sprint race for the first time in the top ten. His best finish was in 2002 so far, a seventh place in the sprint in Liberec, which he repeated in a Gundersenwettkampf in Harrachov 2006. His first season in 2001/ 02 was equipped with two 16 places in the overall World Cup and Sprint Cup standings and his best career.

In 2002, he competed in two competitions of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City at Soldier Hollow. In the sprint, he was only 25, but won in the relay on the side of Ronny Ackermann, Georg Hettich and Björn Kircheisen the silver medal. After the games Höhlig reached only rarely results in the top ten. He also moved increasingly from the World Cup and B- World Cup. Neither for nor World Championships for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he received a starting place.

On 28 December 2007 he retired from competitive sports because it no longer belonged to the A-team of the German combination.

After his playing career was Höhlig coach. Since June 2009, he coached the Nordic Springer offspring in the Fichtelgebirge (North Bavaria). There he supervised the Fichtel Mountain Eagle. The jumping and combined team Fichtelgebirge consists of different clubs in the region. He is now coach in the Bavarian Ski Association and lives in Oberhof. In November 2013 Höhlig was awarded by the German Ski Association as Coach of the Year.
