Marcellaz-Albanais

Marcellaz - Albanais is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Marcellaz - Albanais is located at 550 m above sea level. M., near Rumilly, about ten kilometers west of the town of Annecy (air line). This former farm extends in the foothills on a high plateau in the northern Albanais, south of the valley of Fier.

History

The first mention of Marcellaz was in 1344 under the name Marsolaz. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Marcellus and means something like estate of Marcellus. In the Middle Ages Marcellaz belonged to the rule Hauteville. For better distinctness of the homonymous municipality in Faucigny Marcellaz was often Marcellaz -en- Genevois called in the 19th century. 1921, the official name today Marcellaz - Albanais has been introduced. To a field change occurred in 1923, when the hamlet of Champagne separated together with the southern valley of the Fier and Marcellaz of Hauteville- sur- Fier were slammed.

Attractions
