Marcelo Spinola y Maestre

Marcelo Cardinal Spinola y Maestre ( born January 14, 1835 in San Fernando, Spain, † January 20, 1906 in Seville) was Archbishop of Seville.

Life

Marcelo Spinola y Maestre received his theological, philosophical and legal education at the universities of Granada, Valencia and Seville. He completed his studies with the acquisition of licentiate of canon law and civil law. Then he opened a law office in Huelva and offered for destitute citizens a free legal services to.

In 1863 he took minor orders in 1864 he was ordained a priest. From 1864 to 1869 he worked as a chaplain in the Archdiocese of Seville, from 1869 to 1871 he was a canon of the cathedral chapter of Cadiz. From 1871 to 1879 he worked as a pastor in San Lorenzo, 1879, he was a canon of the Cathedral of Seville.

1880 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. Titular Bishop of Milos and Auxiliary Bishop of Seville. The bishop ordained Marcelo Spinola y Maestre by Joaquín Lluch y Garriga Cardinal. In 1884 Marcelo Spinola y Maestre Bishop of Coria, where he was a year later the Order of the " servant of the divine heart." 1886 gave him the Pope head of the Diocese of Málaga, 1895, he entrusted him with the management of the Archdiocese of Seville. From 1891 to 1894 and from 1898 until his death was Marcelo Spinola y Maestre Senator of the Spanish Kingdom. Pope Pius X took him on 11 December 1905, the College of Cardinals. Marcelo Spinola y Maestre died on 20 January 1906 in Seville.
