Marcey-les-Grèves

Marcey -les- Greves is a commune with 1277 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Manche in Basse-Normandie region. It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes d' Avranches.

Geography

Marcey -les- Greves is on the Bay of Mont -Saint -Michel northwest of Avranches. The Sée flows between the two communities through. The D973, which connects Avranches Granville, flows through the village.

History

The name Marcey -les- Greves received the community 1937. 1801 was still Marcé and Marcey. The local authority received in 1793 in the wake of the French Revolution as Marcé.

The place was formerly a barony, it also reminds nor the Château de Marcey from the 18th century. Today the former castle is used after the destruction of the upper floor as a villa.

Culture and sights

The Church of Saint-Pair was originally built in the 16th century, but largely rebuilt in the 20th century. In the church there is a stone statue of the Virgin and Child from the 16th century. The statue was classified as a monument historique in 1939 ( historical monument ).

Economy

The community is home to a sawmill. A large part of the population works in agriculture, especially in poultry breeding.
