Marco Walker

Marco Walker ( born 2 May 1970 in Solothurn ) is a former Swiss football player and currently part of the coaching staff of the FC Basel.

Playing career

Marco Walker began his playing career with 18 years at FC Grenchen, Switzerland. In 1990 he moved to FC Lugano. For Lugano Walker played 42 league games in which he scored a goal.

He joined the 1992/93 season for FC Basel. Marco Walker played until 1996 for the Basel and took his case for an international commitment and made his debut for the Swiss national football team. In the 1996/97 season played the left wing defender for TSV 1860 München. Walker played two seasons for the Munich in the first division before he joined in 1998 Tennis Borussia Berlin in the summer.

The promoted from the Regional landed unexpectedly at the front third of the table and Marco Walker had big hand in it. As the club in 2000, the license for the 2nd Bundesliga has been withdrawn, left and Walker 's former employer.

Marco Walker returned to Switzerland and moved to FC St. Gallen. After two average seasons, Walker went to FC Aarau. With his achievements, he was in the 2002/03 season after all, make it interesting for the 2nd Bundesliga yet. The FSV Mainz 05 committed Marco Walker and made him the first promotion to the 1st Bundesliga club history. By 2005, Walker only played for the second team of Mainz in the Regionalliga Süd.

His career ended the former professional footballer, and ten international caps in 2006 when BSC Old Boys Basel in Switzerland.

Marco Walker worked from 2007 to 2009 at Concordia Basel as an assistant coach. In January 2009 he moved to his former club, FC Basel and was Assistant coach Christian Gross. As Thorsten Fink short time later as coach of Gross took over, Walker was assigned as a task area to monitor the team's fitness. Today, Walker still belongs to the coaching staff of Basel.
