Marcus Trescothick

Marcus Edward Trescothick MBE ( born December 25, 1975 in Keynsham ) is an English cricketer.

Sporting career

Trescothick is a left-handed batsman. He plays since 1993, first-class cricket for Somerset. In the years in which he had international assignments, he regularly played only a few matches at the beginning of the season for Somerset.

In the period from 2000 until his retirement from international football in 2008, played in 76 Test matches Trescothick and 123 One- Day Internationals ( ODIs ) for England. He was in two Test matches and ten One Day Internationals captain of the team. He also has been used in five one- day internationals as wicket-keeper.

In his international career alternated ups and downs. There he often failed to benefit from a good start of his innings in the way that he was able to achieve a Century. Since 2006, Trescothick suffered from burnout and depression, which in particular that caused he repeats his participation in several months overseas tours of the national team had to stop in the winter. For this reason he joined in 2008 by the international sports back, he had already in 2006 his last Test match use. His autobiography Coming Back to Me was awarded the British Literature Prize William Hill Sports Book of the Year.

Of all active English professionals he has the most runs both in Test cricket ( 5825 runs, 14 Centuries ) as well as in ODIs ( 4335 runs, 12 Centuries ) was achieved. He was voted one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 2005.

At the national level was Trescothick in the years after his retirement from the national team one of the most successful batsmen. Between 2008 and 2011 he scored in every season more than 1000 runs in the English County Championship. In 2011 he scored more than 2500 runs in all English competitions together ( first-class, List A and Twenty20 cricket) and was sure, awarded by the Professional Cricketers Association as Player of the Year as in 2009.

Private life

Trescothick is married and has two daughters. He lives in Taunton.
